we've had a good run

dear sole sister,

thank you for joining me on my journey in becoming a runner.
the journey of discovering how to do something for myself..... something that challenges me..... frees me..... you were my pavement pounding partner during my discovery that i am a runner; that it really is something i do.

thank you for being a wonderful friend.... counselor.... listener..... encourager..... pacer..... leader.... supporter..... training partner...... confidante..... friend.

we met and i was not yet a fully actualized mom..... prego and therefore a mom, but not fully actualized...... in six and a half years, you have traversed some of my most major milestones ....... 3 babies, 4 apartments, parents getting married, parent dying, grief, silly anecdotes, identity crisis, depression, contentment, relief, humor......

and then there are the running milestones....... 3 half marathons, 1 full marathon, 15k, 5 milers, a personal best mile time.......and many, many, many, many loops around the park......and the hill....oh, that blessed hill!

our conversations have made the many miles priceless.

"i can't tell you how helpful it is to have a sole sister, someone you know is counting on you to show up and make each step easier by chatting, laughing, or merely by being by her side." (from run like a mother)
after all this.....

i bid you sunnier runs on the other coast.

i bid you grace in your new adventures.

i bid you peace in the uncertainty.

i bid you joy in the trials.
i bid you comfort in the moments of loneliness.
i bid you all the treasures of your heart.

and i look forward to running on the beach with you this summer!!!

Ohh... how bittersweet. Why do people have to move? (I say this even though I'm usually the one moving.... hmph!) Glad for your 'sole sister.'

I am honored to have such a beautifully written piece dedicated to lil ole me. Thank you for being my rock, my family away from my family. I love you, K.

Gotta run...

I am saddened for you both. What beautiful words for a treasured friendship. You 2 are blessed to have had each other and I am sure your lives are all the better for having had your "run" together. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with the rest of us.
