what we have here is a failure

.....to communicate.

here are some conversations as they have played out over the last couple of days....

kathy says: micah, please pick up your blocks.
micah hears: swing on your new car bed.
kathy says: micah, mommy is asking you to pick up your blocks.
micah hears: play with your train.
kathy says: micah, mommy is asking you again to pick up your blocks.
micah hears: throw your train.
kathy says: micah, this is the last time, mommy is asking you to pick up your blocks. please obey.
micah says with passion: OBEY!!!!
translators note: micah is sure that he is supposed to obey, but fails to understand what he is obeying.

kathy says: her daughter has a birthday party from 12 - 2, so we would like to have lunch then.
john hears: kathy wants to have lunch with a friend
kathy says: do you think you could be home for micah's lunch & nap time?
john hears: be home for lunch & nap time.
translators note: john called at 12:30 and wondered if he should head home for micah's lunch time......kathy burst into tears.....

john says: here micah, hold this egg.
micah hears: hold this.
john says: don't drop it; it will break.
micah hears: drop this.
john says: be careful....it is for the cookies.
micah hears: drop it in the cookie dough.
translators note: yup, that is correct. micah dropped the whole, raw egg into the cookie dough while the blender was going....shell everywhere.

kathy says: i think asher is really close to a schedule
asher hears: blah, blah, blah, blah
kathy says: he goes to sleep around 8 and nurses around 1 & 5 then wakes up around 7:30
asher hears: nurse......did someone say nurse?!
he woke at 6 am this morning after nursing at 4. kathy's brain is mushy!!!

communication seems to be failing us all around......

You are so funny! Aint it the truth with nursers...you just get them figured out and they go and have a growth spurt and need more! I can so relate with the conversation between you and John. For days I will tell E about something on our schedule and then the day of he is going..."When did this come up??"

and we will be out numbered....

as of monday, i am through my first trimester with sweet baby #3. the sweet children will out number the adults come the beginning of march. as john likes to comment about my day to day coping skills, "her body is betraying her" as i adjust to pregnancy and surviving with two small children. i still can't find our flash drive to upload pictures....i'll work on it. it requires clearing off the computer desk which exists in the middle of the living room due to the plaster/drywall work being done to patch up the hole from the toilet leak. supposedly the new hardwood floors are supposed to arrive this week.....which means we could potentially move out of the office and back into our bedroom in a couple of weeks!!! the small pleasures in life!

more tidbits

i find it interesting....... .......how the two boys are in sync already. apparently we had not weathered the worst of operation big boy-no paci....he cried for almost an hour. what we thought would be an early bedtime was not....then asher (who was supposed to sleep until 2) woke up at midnight only to be followed by big brother 10 minutes later "scared." .......how 20 & 30 years olds (including myself) walk around the locker room delicately covered up by the towel that is slightly too small to cover my rumpus..... and yet the 50 & 60 years old strut around with no shame. nora ephron claims that the things that we things we hate about out bodies in our 20s will be the things we long for in our 50s. funny how that works...maybe i'll lose my abandon and sit in the sauna naked as a jaybird..... naw!!! .......how fun sitting on the kitchen counter while daddy cooks is for a two year old. .......how much i want to cut my hair. .......how excited i am to have gott...
