few documentaries

good hair.
by chris rock.
how does america define beauty mostly among african-american women?
his three-year old daughter asked him why she didn't have good hair. he looks into the industry, the ideals, the money, and the need. it is fascinating. i almost don't know how to discuss it because on one hand, it seems like an amazing amount of money for relaxer and weaves. on the other hand, don't i get my roots done every six weeks to maintain this mane of blond hair that is only about ten shades lighter than my natural hair? and what do i believe about the extent a woman should go to in order to feel beautiful? i guess i am torn. it seems like a lot. it seems like we have created a culture where white, flowing, wavy (not nappy) hair is what is beautiful. that makes me sad to think of the little girls in my neighborhood, on my street not thinking that their hair is beautiful. god did make her hair different than my daughter's....and just because my daughter's is fine and whispy does not make it better.

it might get loud.
jimmy page (led zepplin), the edge (u2), and jack white (white stripes, raconteurs).
again....totally different but again interesting.
watching them all sit together and talk about playing, creativity, writing. each was interviewed in his home, recording places, and various locations that related to his story. it was cool. mostly to hear about jimmy page and how he became "jimmy page." jack white is a strange dude. not doubt. and how can i resist anything about the edge and the story of when he wrote "sunday bloody sunday."

killer at large
.

all in all there was nothing new in this documentary that i have not read about but it was just in one place. i did find the political aspect of the topic interesting since i tend to shy away from it. the idea of commercial targeting children especially when there are fun characters attached to snacks, food, fast-food, junk, candy, etc. also the topic of vending machines in schools and how much money is behind that decision.... all very interested. a bit out dated in some sense but still a very relevant topic......worth a gander but i would watch food inc first if i had to pick one.
